“Praying for Everyone”

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2.1-4).

Intercessory Community (v. 1)

-Intercessory prayer to be an essential component of our lives
-Valuing corporate & personal prayer and avoiding its neglect
-Prayers that are not simply self-focused but Kingdom-minded and Gospel-centered
-Supporting others through prayer and bearing their burdens (Gal. 6.2)

“…be made for all people…” (v. 1)

-Homeless & neglected in the city to find rest in Jesus Christ (Matt. 11.28)
-Missionaries in foreign countries to rejoice in tribulation (James 1.1-4)
-New Orleans executives & businessmen to treasure Jesus Christ as precious (1 Peter 2.4)
– “All of the saints” (Eph. 6.18) to be guarded from the enemy, preserved in doctrinal purity, and matured into Christ’s image for God’s glory

“…for kings and all who are in high positions” (v. 2)

-Local Government
…Purging the injustice and greed long associated with New Orleans government
…Wisdom to continue discerning the road ahead for New Orleans
-2008 Presidential Election
“…the Most high rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom He will and sets over it the lowliest of men” (Dan. 4.17)
-Legislature that reflects aspects of a Biblical worldview
…Protecting the sanctity of life – loving our unborn neighbors (Mark 12.31)
…Defending the Biblical definition of the family

“Praying the Beatitudes (Matt. 5:1-11)”

Students of Jesus

“Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. And he opened his mouth and taught them” (v. 1-2).

-Men and women living by and committed to the teaching of Christ
-Hearts that long to be directed by the rod and the staff of their Shepherd (Ps. 23.4)
-Church of people who “receive with meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your souls” (James 1.21)
-Abiding in Christ’s Word, and so proving to be his disciples (John 8.31)

Poor in Spirit

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. …Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (v. 3-5, 10)

-Eyes lifted from temporal possessions and pleasures to the eternal hope of glory
-Fostering an atmosphere of humility and self-forgetfulness
…“Naked, come to thee for dress; helpless, look to thee for grace”
-Comfort for those in the Body who mourn
-Those who suffer to hear Christ’s proclamation of “Blessed” over their life

Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
…Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (v. 6, 8 )

-More of Jesus Christ, our Righteousness! (1 Cor. 1.30)
-A Church that displays the holiness of God
-Grace-motivated, joyful obedience to the commandments of Jesus (Matt. 28.20)
-Purity that is rooted in satisfaction in God
-Waging war against sin or anything else that hinders us from seeing God (v. 8 )

“A Burden for 2008”

Our Last Efforts in 2007

The Christmas Celebration (Dec. 23rd)
-A time of joyful celebration of our Incarnate Savior
-Sense of community as Saturday & Sunday services are united as one
-God to bless our evangelistic efforts in inviting friends & family
-Presentation of the Gospel to be clear and convicting to unbelievers who attend
-Against technical difficulties or any other disruptions

Setting a Precedent for 2008

The Men’s Retreat (Jan. 5th-6th)
-2008 to be a year of renewed surge in male leadership
-Men to experience freedom in categories of sin that have held them in bondage
-Men to be rooted in the Word and the discipline of prayer
-Fathers to receive fresh revelation to lead their families
-Young men to sense the calling to rise up and stand strong

2008 the Year

-Experiencing the “year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke 4.19)
-Revisioning & renewal for the various ministries of the church:
…Operation Replant, Alpha, & Mercy Ministries
…The Pivot, Youth, and Children’s Ministries
…Covenant Groups & Weekend Services
…PrayerForce & corporate prayer gatherings
-2008 to be a year of Kingdom-minded, self-sacrificing, Gospel-centered, risk-taking growth in LCC for the glory of God

“Awakening Prayers for Awakening”

“Revival is a season in the life of the church when God causes the normal ministry of the gospel to surge forward with extraordinary spiritual power…. Revival is seasonal, not perennial. God causes it; we do not. It is the normal ministry of the gospel, not something eccentric or even different from what the church is always charged to do. What sets revival apart is simply that our usual efforts greatly accelerate in their spiritual effects.” –Raymond Ortlund, When God Comes to Church, p. 9

Personal and Family Revival:

-Revival in private times of prayer – perseverance to “persist in prayer”
-Experiencing God through his Word – revelation and illumination
-Fresh vigor and empowerment in the battle against sin
-Awakening of boldness in personal witness
-Experience of the presence of the Spirit in daily living
-Revival in the life of family worship and devotions

Corporate Revival:

-Awakening of a deep reverence for God’s holiness
-Vibrant joy and celebration of God’s goodness
-Protection of our hearts from empty worship
-Church to break out in a spirit of self-sacrifice
-Restoration of a full-orbed ministry of the Spirit – both in the miraculous
and seemingly ordinary
-Most importantly: that the Gospel would be central in the life and ministry of the church!

Revival in the City:

-God to bless this city…with the grace of repentance
-Gospel to shine into the Lakeview community and beyond
-Culture of violence, drug addiction, and racism to be replaced with an atmosphere
of Christ-centeredness
-Christ to exert his claim on the hearts of this city!
